Fotini Kondyli

Associate Professor of Byzantine Art & Archaeology, Department of Art, University of Virginia


 Fotini Kondyli is an Associate Professor of Byzantine Art and Archaeology. Her research interests include the construction of Byzantine spaces, collective identity, landscape and household archaeology, and the archaeology of Byzantine non-elites. She also works on economic and political networks in the Eastern Mediterranean in the Late Byzantine period (13th- 15th c.). As an active field archaeologist, Kondyli has worked in numerous archaeological sites in Europe. She is currently involved in four archaeological projects at Athens, Thebes, northern Attica and Samothrace where she is responsible for the study and publication of the Byzantine and Medieval material focusing on settlement patterns, trade networks and sacred spaces.
